Surviving in a Digital World - TI-Innovator™

Ian Galloway

The TI-Innovator in Europe was launched in January 2017 at the BETT show in London. But why the excitement? What exactly is the TI-Innovator and why could it make a difference to teaching? This talk will provide the rationale for the TI-Innovator and make a case for the use of such devices being the right of all schoolchildren across Europe. At its heart it is a micro-controller which can collect and use data to operate devices. It is very easy to programme from the TI-84 CE-T or TI-Nspire CX and gives students the opportunity to control devices using input data. Up until now we have only been able to collect data and model it mathematically. Now the models can be applied to the Real World through coding or programming. Of course it has always been possible to build electronic devices to control appliances but now writing a programme takes the place of building the electronic circuit. This is a lot easier and opens the doors to many more opportunities for students … the Innovator is a real STEM solution!
