An introduction to probability and simulations using computer algebra

Fleur Goudriaan

After a short introduction of some basic commands, the calculator can be used to do simple experiments: rolling a dice or coin or do a simulation. We can use a spreadsheet to simulate for example a family with 3 children and calculate the probability of having 2 girls or rolling n times with two die and calculate the probability of having a sum greater than 10. In the second part of the workshop participants will make their your own simulation. The examples used in this workshop focus on the  S4/S5 syllabus of the European Schools. The level of this workshop is really basic and the things you learn can be used in class as an introduction to probability.
