Introducing Mathematical concepts using computer algebra
Luc Blomme
For a lot of students many mathematical concepts are so abstract that it is very difficult to really understand them. Using computer algebra we can create a pedagogical environment to visualize and introduce these concepts step by step. Several examples from various topics of the S6-7 syllabus of the European Schools will be shown: derivation, maximum or minimum problem, area, solids of revolution, intersecting spheres, sequences, probability, Taylor series, periodic functions, etc. As well as a short introduction to some of the “behind the scenes” techniques used to create the examples.
